Research bones, human hands.
Flourish Energy is a regenerative leadership advisory built on one finding: lasting change begins within the leader, then radiates to the system. We exist to make that change real, and demonstrable.
Research first, then the rooms.
The research came first. The Bas Wellbeing Model was built in doctoral fieldwork in 2014 and 2015, peer-reviewed in 2017, and put to work in research consulting before Flourish had a name. Flourish Wellbeing opened in 2020 as a 1:1 practice built on a simple bet: that rigorous research and embodied practice belong in the same room.
The organizations followed almost immediately. A national youth charity building an evaluation system from scratch. A social justice housing provider that tripled in size through the pandemic. A widening circle of for-purpose, healthcare and values-led teams who wanted the same rigour applied to the whole system, not just the person at the top of it. Six years, thousands of session hours and a track record of organizational results later, the practice matured into Flourish Energy Inc.: convenings where the whole orbit meets, advising for leaders, and consulting for the organizations they carry.
What we believe
Lasting change begins within the leader, then radiates to the system. That is not a metaphor. It is the finding. Conway’s law holds that the structure of a system reflects the structure of the organization that built it; a decade of assessment work extends it one step further, to the internal state of the leader. And it is good news, because it means the highest-leverage work in your organization is also the most human: build capacity in the people who carry the mission, and everything they touch gets steadier. We call it the revolution within.
From philosophy to Monday morning.
The Revolution Within
Why lasting change starts within the leader, then radiates outward.
The Bas Wellbeing Model
Peer-reviewed (2017) and field-tested (2020 to present), from doctoral research at York University (2019). Three domains, with meaning as the ground they grow in.
WAM & IQA
Leader-level and organization-level assessments built from the model. Evidence before advice.
The SCA Method & the org build
For leaders: Somatic practices, Cognitive cues, and aligned Actions, work that lands on the body, the thinking, and the calendar at once. For organizations: values and mission, theory of change, and implementation support.
Three domains, one ground.
Material security. The precondition. Not a wealth measure, and not what GDP counts. Access to resources, physical health, safety in your body and on your street, and the state of the natural environment you live inside. A person in a burning region has a material security problem that no salary resolves.
Relationships. The single most consistent determinant of wellbeing in the entire literature, across time and across cultures. Beyond networking. Being known.
Engagement. Flow, absorption, the state in which self-realization becomes possible. The difference between doing the work and being in it.
Meaning. Not a fourth domain. The terrain the other three grow in, or fail to, and the thing that most intensifies the benefit of each one. Every Flourish engagement, one to one or organization-wide, begins by measuring it.

Dr. Japji Anna Bas
Japji has spent 25+ years at the intersection of human systems and wellbeing. She holds a PhD in Wellbeing Environments (York University, 2019), is an ICF Professional Certified Coach and a Certified Somatic Attachment Therapist, and her research has informed the Federal Long-Form Census, the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition, and Social Indicators Research, the leading journal on quality-of-life measurement.
She has lived on both sides of every polarity she bridges: corporate law offices and the social assistance line, peer-reviewed research and embodied practice, the policy table and the frontline. Clients say she meets frontline staff, managers and leadership as equals. She would say that is the whole point.
Boutique by design, agile by nature.
Flourish is a boutique by choice: one principal and a tight team behind the scenes. When you work with Flourish, you work with Japji. Small enough to move quickly; senior enough that nothing gets delegated down.
